PROGENIKA’s BLOOD GROUP GENOTYPING TEST AVAILABLE THROUGH ARUP LABORATORIES

Cambridge, MA, October 22, 2009 – Progenika, Inc. today announced that it has entered into an agreement with ARUP Laboratories (ARUP) of Salt Lake City, UT, to provide blood group genotyping reference laboratory services to ARUP to determine patient red blood cell antigen profiles when serology has logistic and functional limitations. Progenika’s blood group genotyping microarray, which simultaneously detects over 100 genetic variants in the nine blood group systems that are most relevant to transfusion safety, overcomes these serological limitations.

LAUREANO SIMON, FOUNDER AND co-CEO

Dr. Simon is the founder of Progenika Biopharma S.A. and has co-founded Progenika Inc., Proteomika S.L. and Abytnek Biopharma S.L. Mr. Simon has extensive experience in the diagnostics industry and has established successful collaborations with pharmaceutical companies. Currently Dr. Simon is CEO of Progenika Group, co-CEO of Progenika Inc and serves as a Director in several biotechnology companies in Europe and the US. He is also an advisor to a number of governments, scientific committees, public institutions and private foundations on technology policy matters. He is a well recognized entrepreneur having obtained several awards for his achievements. His qualifications include a PhD in Chemistry from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, a PhD from the University of Navarra and a Master of Science from Wisconsin University (USA). He is also author of several publications in recognized scientific journals.

ANTONIO MARTINEZ, FOUNDER AND co-CEO

Dr. Martinez has more than 15 years of experience in biotechnology, particularly in the development of tools for genetic diagnosis. During his career, Dr. Martinez has co-founded several biotechnology companies and currently serves as Chief Scientific Officer of Progenika Group, co-CEO of Progenika Inc. and member of the Board of Director of several biotechnology companies. Prior to Progenika, Dr. Martinez was Senior Researcher at Zeltia, one of the leading Biotechnology companies in Europe. Before receiving an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa, Dr. Martinez obtained his PhD from the University of Navarra with a project aimed at the development of a diagnostic method for cystic fibrosis, an aim which he accomplished in 1992. The output of Dr. Martinez’s research and development work includes 27 publications in scientific journals and 18 patent applications on diagnostic methods for genotyping or gene expression.
