PROGENIKA’s BLOOD GROUP GENOTYPING TEST AVAILABLE THROUGH ARUP LABORATORIES

Cambridge, MA, October 22, 2009 – Progenika, Inc. today announced that it has entered into an agreement with ARUP Laboratories (ARUP) of Salt Lake City, UT, to provide blood group genotyping reference laboratory services to ARUP to determine patient red blood cell antigen profiles when serology has logistic and functional limitations. Progenika’s blood group genotyping microarray, which simultaneously detects over 100 genetic variants in the nine blood group systems that are most relevant to transfusion safety, overcomes these serological limitations.

  • Preemptively determining a patients’ complete blood type profile can prevent alloimmunization that arises from partially matched blood transfusions.

prevent alloimmunization…

The vulnerable patient groups at most risk for alloimmunization and who will benefit the most from our blood group genotyping service are:

  • Pregnant women who are Rh(D)-negative and at risk of maternal alloimmunization from a Rh(D)-positive fetus;
  • Multiply-transfused patients such as those with sickle cell anemia, thalassemia or undergoing chemotherapy;
  • Rh(D)-negative patients who might receive blood incorrectly typed as Rh(D)-negative but is actually weak Rh(D)-positive;
  • Patients who are Jknull who might receive Jka blood incorrectly;
  • Patients who are Fy(b-)  who might receive Fy(b+) blood that has been mis-typed because of weak expression.
