Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics (AMT) and Progenika Biopharma announced today that the companies have entered into a development and commercialization agreement for LPLchipTM, a diagnostic tool to rapidly diagnose patients with complete and partial lipoprotein lipase deficiency (LPLD). AMT has developed Glybera® as a gene therapy for patients with this disease.
On 29 April, at a conspicuous inauguration ceremony held on the legendary campus of MIT (the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Progenika was recognized by the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, cradle of the world's biotechnology industry, for the quality and commitment of its business project.
During the official opening of the first American site of Progenika Inc (a subsidiary of the Progenika Group), the company's representatives were presented with the keys to the city by the Mayoress of Cambridge, Denise Simmons. In return the President of the Company, D. Juan Miguel Retolaza, expressed his gratitude to the local, state and government authorities for "the enormous support they have continued to provide Progenika in the company's determined efforts to consolidate its position as a key player in the competitive American market of Personalized Medicine".
Mr. Greg Bialecky, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development of the city of Cambridge, and Mr. Charles Skuba, Chief of Staff for Market Access and Compliance in the Administration of International Trade, from the Federal Government also spoke at the official opening ceremony. Further speeches were given by the representatives of the Basque Government D. Tontxu Campos Granados, Adviser for Education, Universities and Research, and D. Gabriel Mª Inclán Iribar, Health Adviser for the Basque Government.
Finally Dr Antonio Martínez, founder and CEO of Progenika, addressed the gathering with further words of gratitude: "The fact that Progenika is here in Cambridge today, launching new facilities that comply with the most stringent US laboratory regulations, is a result of our considerable achievements in the field of Personalized Medicine, but also owes thanks to the commitment with which the Basque Government, state of Massachusetts and city of Cambridge have all supported cutting edge innovation and biomedical research.
In Progenika's CLIA certified laboratories located on the MIT campus in Cambridge, the current team of 15 Progenika Inc scientists collaborates closely with over 100 employees of Progenika Biopharma based in Derio (Bizkaia, Spain) with the aim of consolidating Progenika Group's status as a world leader in the competitive field of Personalized Medicine.
